We have often looked to Dynasty Mattress for a less expensive alternative to Tempur-Pedic, but Sleep Innovations, a company that markets its products through department stores, online retailers and mass merchandisers, also offers affordable memory foam sleep products.  Their 10 and 12-inch Sure Temp Memory Foam Mattresses come with a 20 year warranty, can often be found for less than $400 (Queen), and are best-sellers on Amazon[REF Sleep Innovations Mattress Reviews]

Sleep Innovations have been around since 1996 and they predominantly manufacture memory foam pillows, memory foam mattress toppers and memory foam mattresses.  The company manufactures ALL of their products in the USA and they meet the appropriate industrial safety standards.  Sleep Innovations also claim that their strict recycling initiatives, carbon scrubbing technology and limited trucking travel (due to strategically placed plants) indicate that they are serious about their commitment to the environment.

Sleep Innovations manufacture two memory foam mattresses that are proving to be quite popular.  These are the 10 inch Memory Foam Mattress and the 12 inch Memory Foam Mattress.  These both use Sleep Innovations’ patented open cell technology which is said to alleviate mattress heating (memory foam mattress owners sometimes complain that the mattress does not breathe well and the surface gets too hot when sleeping).

10 Inch Memory Foam Mattress
- 3 Inch top layer of memory foam
- 7 Inch base layer of support foam
- (W x L x H) 60 inches x 80 inches x 10 inches

12 Inch Memory Foam Mattress
- 2.5 Inch top layer of memory foam
- 9.5 Inch base layer of support foam
- (W x L x H) 60 inches x 80 inches x 12 inches

The base layer of foam is durable and provides support.  The mattress itself will sit on top of a box spring or platform bed.   Each mattress comes with a plush, elastic, circular-knit, all-in-one mattress cover.  The mattress is shipped tightly compressed and requires about 48 hours to expand when it is opened.  As is typical with most memory foam the mattress also has a chemical-like smell but Sleep Innovations states that this “dissipates quickly and completely”, and this fact is borne out by most consumer comments.   The mattresses carry a limited 20-year manufacturer’s warranty.

In addition, memory foam is fire retardant, naturally resistant to dust mites, and hypoallergenic (which simply means that the mattress will cause fewer allergic reactions than a non-hypoallergenic mattress).  The Sleep Innovations mattresses are also anti-microbial treated to ensure that mold and mildew cannot grow, and they contain no formaldehyde, no PBDEs, and no CFCs.

More about Memory Foam
Memory foam, sometimes called visco-elastic foam, is made from polyurethane and was originally developed by NASA in the 1960’s to help astronauts deal with severe g-forces.  Memory foam mattresses were prohibitively expensive in the past but new technology has made these mattresses more accessible to the public in recent years.  Memory foam is comprised of many tiny air-filled cells that slowly release their air when compressed and slowly refill when the pressure is removed.  Therefore impressions made in the foam last quite a while (or are “remembered”) before the foam reverts back to its original shape.

The premise behind a memory foam mattress is that it molds to your individual body shape and retains that shape to offer your body support where it needs it most. Unlike a hard mattress, it does not stiffen joints but instead ensures that they are aligned and supported with the correct amount of pressure across the length of your body.
