Serta iComfort Mattress
- Details

Serta has been around since the early 1930’s and today the company is the second largest bedding manufacturer in the world. They also provide mattresses to hotel chains such as Hilton, Marriott, Intercontinental, etc. Like many other mattress manufacturers today, Serta has recently jumped on the memory foam bandwagon and their most recent offering in this arena is the iComfort series. Owners find the iComfort mattresses dense, comfortable and very breathable but they are rather heavy.
The iComfort series of mattresses use memory foam infused with gel beads (known as MicroSupport Gel). The result is Serta’s “Cool Action Gel Memory Foam”. The gel beads are purported to provide additional support and, coupled with the open-cell memory foam, to increase cooling. Serta report that their “Cool Action Gel Memory Foam” is 12 times more breathable than ordinary memory foam and that it cools to room temperature up to 7 times faster.
For those confused about open-cell or closed-cell foams consider the following examples:
- Open-cell foam is like a bath sponge. Air can enter and exit the foam.
- Closed-cell foam is like the sole of a running shoe. There are air bubbles inside the foam but air cannot enter or exit the foam.
Serta indicate that they use up to 200 percent more gel in their gel infused foam than other similar mattresses and that this results in more support and durability. Indeed, consumers do report that the iComfort beds feel more dense than a number of other gel infused memory foam mattresses on the market today. However it should be noted that these mattresses are somewhat heavy.
There are presently 6 different iComfort models and they have a range of different foam layers and features.

You may want to view the range of iComfort mattresses on Amazon to learn more about pricing and features. In general these mattresses don't go cheap but they are typically less than a Tempur-Pedic. As an example one would expect a Queen Renewal Refined to be between $2500 and $3000, a Queen Revolution to be between $1500 and $2000, and a Queen Insight about $1000.
The iComfort mattresses carry a 25 year limited warranty. It would appear that Serta provide the following (but please confirm with your retailer):
The first 15 years:
No charge for repair or replacement of the mattress.
After the first 15 years there is a customer charge that is calculated as:
1/25 *Dealer Retail Price * #Years from purchase date
Serta provide a 120 day in-home trial, although we would suggest talking carefully to the retailer about the details of the trial because the wording on the Serta site is somewhat vague and non-committal.
Serta also sell an adjustable foundation for use with the iComfort mattress series. The Serta Motion Perfect Adjustable Foundation features a remote control that allows you to adjust the head or foot of the mattress. It also has a massage setting.
Serta mattresses can generally be found in the following sizes
Twin - 38 x 74.5 inches
Twin XL - 38 x 79.5 inches
Full - 53 x 74.5 inches
Queen - 60 x 79.5 inches
