Dynasty Mattress Cool Breeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress
- Details
The new Cool Breeze 12-inch gel memory foam mattress is a popular seller on our site. According to owners this is because it is quite inexpensive (about $475 for a Queen) and also because it alleviates some of the problems typical of traditional memory foam – the Cool Breeze provides good support at pressure points and it does not sleep hot. It isn’t perfect however and like many mattresses with memory foam it gives off a chemical smell when first unpacked.
Dynasty Mattress
This mattress is manufactured by Dynasty Mattress. Dynasty provides memory foam mattresses and memory foam pillows but there is little information available about the company itself. They appear to have become popular as the cheaper alternative to Tempur-Pedic, and they market themselves as retailers of high-quality, low-cost memory foam orthopedic mattresses. Dynasty also sells a fair number of mattresses through Amazon. We can see that their Amazon storefront indicates a high level of customer satisfaction – you can check it out here: Dynasty Information
So are Dynasty mattresses really a quality substitute for a Tempur-Pedic? That is a difficult question – some consumers say yes while others indicate no. What we do know is they model many of their mattresses directly after Tempur-Pedic models, although it is not clear if this gel memory foam mattress is modeled after a Tempur-Pedic. We can’t find any Tempur-Pedic model that would be comparable.

Gel Memory Foam
We’re seeing a lot of gel memory foam mattresses on the market recently and they are selling well. So just what is gel memory foam? It is not too mysterious – it is essentially memory foam that has been infused with many, many small gel beads. How does this help? Well first, traditional memory foam can have a few issues. It can sometimes sleep hot and it can also allow you to sink in too deeply. Gel beads remove or at least minimize both of these issues. They increase airflow thereby providing extra cooling and they gather in areas of pressure (pressure points - mostly hips and shoulders) to add support so you don’t sink in too deeply.
The Cool Breeze Mattress
We’ve seen the new Cool Breeze 12-Inch GEL Memory Foam Mattress from Dynasty sometimes referred to as the new “Fresh Breeze” 12-Inch GEL Memory Foam Mattress. We’re not sure if Dynasty is considering a name change or not, but at this time both names refer to the same mattress. The mattress is comprised of 4 layers of foam:
- 3 inches of gel memory foam (which Dynasty refer to as Sleep Cool Technology Foam – perhaps a bit of a stretch but this is typical marketing lingo).
- 2 inch layer of Cool Airflow Foam
- Another 2 inch layer of Cool Airflow Foam
- 5 inches of high density support foam
You can see these layers in the image below. You will also notice that the foam layers are wrapped in a fire barrier.

Foams used in the Cool Breeze are all CertiPUR-US certified. Certified foam products have passed rigorous tests ensuring low emissions for indoor air quality. CertiPUR-US is an extension of a European program developed by the association of European flexible polyurethane foam block manufacturers. They test foams for physical performance, environmental stewardship and indoor emissions. The foams in the mattress have low VOC’s, no CFC’s or ozone depleters, no PBDE flame retardants, no heavy metals, no formaldehyde, and no prohibited phthalates. I’m sure CertiPUR-US does their job well but bear in mind that this group was put together by members of the global foam industry.
We’ve scanned many owner comments related to this mattress and found the following pros and cons:
PROS
- Very reasonably priced for a gel memory foam mattress
- Stays cool (doesn’t sleep hot)
- Many folks feel it is firm yet comfortable
- Several comments that it has relieved back and joint pain
CONS
- Some owners feel it is too firm
- Some owners report a chemical odor
- Not easy to ship back if you don’t like it
Probably the biggest area of concern for owners has been the firmness of the mattress. Dynasty is careful to ensure potential buyers know the mattress is “Medium Firm” but it still seems firmer than some folks would like. Having said that, the bulk of owners report that while the mattress is firm it is still very comfortable
There are also reports of a lingering chemical odor after the mattress is unpacked. Some owners report that the odor is strong and stays for many days while others indicate that it is mild and is gone after a day or so. On average it seems the chemical smell is usually gone in about 3 days.
If you don’t like the mattress you can return it (usually within 120 days) but bear in mind that returning the mattress can be difficult. This mattress arrives vacuum packed and expands to full size when the packaging is opened. You cannot re-vacuum pack this thing so it is awkward and expensive to ship.
There are many reports that sleeping on the Cool Breeze relieves back and joint pain. Frankly it is not uncommon to read this kind of thing when one switches from an innerspring mattress to some kind of memory foam. There are also several comments that the gel beads in the New Cool Breeze do help the mattress sleep cooler and several of these comments come from folks who have slept on memory foam mattresses without gel.
We should point out that a number of owners were impressed with the lack of motion transfer imparted by the mattress. This is typical of most memory foam mattresses. Owners indicate that the Cool Breeze has such limited motion transfer that one partner can move about or get up without disrupting the sleep of the other.
At the time of this writing the mattress had an average rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 on Amazon. There were over 1700 consumer comments and ratings (updated June 2016). This is a healthy sample size and provides a level of credibility to the star rating. You can read more consumer comments on Amazon if you wish.
The mattress arrives compressed (vacuum packed) and in a rectangular box. It is best if you move the mattress to the room where you want to setup the bed then unpack it. The mattress is heavy and awkward to move after it is allowed to expand. Dynasty says that it can take up to 72 hours to expand to its full size but many owners report that it is fully expanded in only about 24 hours.
A white, washable mattress cover also comes with the Cool Breeze. The cover has brown suede on the corners and can be removed easily. It also has a zipper.
The mattress carries a 20–year limited warranty and can be purchased in a range of sizes:
- Full
- Queen
- King
- California King
- Full XL
- Twin XL
- RV Short King (for recreational vehicles)
- RV Short Queen
The Cool Breeze does not come with a foundation but some retailers, like Amazon, provide gel memory foam pillows with your order. Check before you buy.
