Coco Mat

The Natural Mat Company manufactures their mattresses in Devon England but their products are also widely sold in the USA.  Part of the company’s marketing efforts include highlighting that their products are bought by the likes of Halle Berry and Gwyneth Paltrow. Natural Mat mattresses are handmade using sustainable natural and organic materials.  They are also non-allergenic and comfortable. Owners give these crib mattresses high praise and about the only area of “concern” is the significant cost.

Naturepedic Organic Crib Mattress

The Naturepedic Quilted Deluxe Organic Cotton Crib Mattress is a luxurious innerspring baby mattress that uses 252 heavy duty coils.  The mattress is fire safe, fairly firm (for support) and does not use any wool or latex which can sometimes cause allergic reactions.  It also doesn’t use any vinyl/PVC or polyurethane foam which can release chemicals over time.   The organic cotton used is unbleached and grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, GMOs, or chemical fertilizers.  The mattress is not waterproof however but an optional waterproof mattress pad that will protect the mattress from getting wet is available (and recommended).  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews 2011]

Sealy Tender Vibes Soothing Mattress

The Sealy Tender Vibes Soothing Mattress is an interesting idea that appears to have been implemented well.  This crib mattress has a vibration feature that gradually turns itself off over about a 15 minute time interval.  This feature is almost unanimously praised by mattress owners who feel it truly helps their babies fall asleep.  The only area of contention is that the vibrations only stay on for about 15 minutes and some owners would like to be able to set it for longer time periods. [REF Sealy Mattress Reviews]

LA Baby Organic Mattress

The L A Baby Organic Cotton 2 in One Orthopedic Crib Mattress is a well-priced organic mattress.  It is also an innerspring mattress with 2 sides: one for the newborn and the other for the infant at 18+ months.  Consumers like the 25 year warranty and the fact that it is durable and well-built however some feel that it is not quite firm enough.  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews 2011]

Colgate Classica III

Colgate is a family owned company and they manufacture their mattresses in the USA.  The Colgate Classica I is probably their best known mattress but they also make the Classica III, a mattress that has "dual zones" - one side for babies and one size for toddlers.  The Classica III gets good consumer ratings and is praised for its light weight and easy to clean cover, however some feel it may be too firm.  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews]

Sealy Posturepedic Springfree

The Sealy Posturepedic Springfree Soybean & Latex Foam-Core Crib Mattress is well liked by owners and garners very good consumer ratings.  Consumers like the use of eco-friendly materials, the extreme light weight of the mattress, and the fact that is 2 mattresses in one (one side is for infants and the other is for toddlers).  It is not waterproof however and you will likely want to accompany it with a waterproof mattress pad. [REF Sealy Mattress Reviews]

Kolcraft Pediatric

The Pediatric 2000 is a fairly basic crib mattress but it gets very good consumer ratings and is also reasonable priced.  If you are looking for a decent mattress that won’t empty your wallet this one is worth considering. It is not that widely available anymore but it can still be found with a bit of searching.  Parents like the fact that the mattress is firm yet still comfortable, and that it is sturdy and lightweight.  Some folks like the plastic film on the mattress that makes it waterproof and easy to wipe clean but others feel that it reduces the ability of the mattress to breath. [REF Crib Mattress Reviews]

Sealy Soybean Foam Crib Mattress

The Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Crib Mattress is another crib mattress that is getting very good consumer ratings.  Many parents have a lot of positive things to say about this mattress and there are few negative comments.  It is firm yet comfortable, eco-friendly, not too expensive, and comes with a lifetime warranty on workmanship and materials.  According to Sealy this is the first soybean crib mattress. [REF Sealy Mattress Reviews 2011]

Simmons Beautyrest Beginnings

The Beautyrest Beginnings mattresses are the top end of the Simmons baby and kids products.  They are innerspring mattresses that use the famous Beautyrest Pocketed Coil springs and they are divided into two ages groups – 0 to 4 years (babies and toddlers) and 4+ years (kids and teens). [REF Simmons Mattress Reviews]

Simmons Kids Pampering

Simmons have a number of different crib and toddler mattresses but one of the more popular ones is the Simmons Kids Pampering Sleep Supreme 234 Coil Baby Crib and Toddler Mattress.  This Simmons kids mattress has a different sleeping surface on each side – one side for the baby and the other for when the baby becomes a toddler.  It also gets solid reviews from consumers.  [REF Simmons Mattress Reviews 2010]

Sealy Baby Posturepedic

Sealy Baby Posturepedic Crown Jewel Crib Mattress gets extremely high consumer ratings.  As a matter of fact when looking for pros and cons in consumer comments we had a difficult time finding anything negative at all.  It has an anti-bacterial surface, a lifetime warranty, and most important of all parents indicate that it provides a firm yet comfortable surface that their baby sleeps very well on. [REF Sealy Mattress Reviews 2010]

Naturepedic Crib Mattress

This is a crib mattress that is marketed as “non-toxic” and “hypoallergenic” with “100% organic US grown cotton” and a “waterproof surface”.  For the most part consumers appear to like the mattress quite a bit, but some indicate that it is rather expensive.  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews 2010]

Colgate Classica Crib Mattress

Dubbed by many outlets as “the most recognized and popular foam crib mattress by name in America”, the Colgate Classica I Crib Mattress, gets very good reviews from consumers.  This mattress has received accolades from many sources, and there is now an eco-friendly version available.  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews 2010]

Sealy Baby Ultra Mattress

This crib mattress gets excellent customer ratings and because this mattress is quite popular, a fairly large number of ratings and consumer comments are available.  For the most part consumers feel that this coil mattress is very comfortable and also well priced, however there are some that feel it is too soft and sometimes doesn’t fit well in the crib.  [REF Sealy Mattress Reviews 2010]

Crib mattresses are of great interest to parents and parents-to-be today because the days when a mother or father could walk into a store and purchase any crib mattress are gone. As a result of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), there have been many health and safety guidelines associated to these mattresses, and parents are far pickier about the mattress that their little one sleeps on. Fortunately this has brought more choice to the marketplace than ever before, but you now have to do your due diligence before heading out to buy a crib mattress.  [REF Crib Mattress Reviews 2010]
