In this article we put forth our top choices for affordable memory foam mattresses. Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress
Green tea memory foam may seem a little strange at first but the addition of green tea to a mattress is actually a fairly good idea. Many memory foam mattresses suffer from a chemical smell that can put off owners. Green tea helps to neutralize odors in the mattress and ensures that it stays smelling fresh.
The Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is getting great reviews from consumers and it is also quite affordable – generally under $300 (depending on the size you purchase). Zinus – the company – may not be particularly well known but they have been in business for over 30 years and making mattresses for about 15 years. They are not a big brand name and don’t spend much on marketing which actually help keep costs low.
The Green Tea Mattress can be found in 8 inch, 10 inch or 12 inch depths and sizes range from twin to California King. The mattress, depending on depth, has 3 to 4 layers of foam: Memory Foam, Comfort Form, Airflow High-Density Foam. All foams in the mattress as CertiPUR-US certified so they are safe and have passed tests ensuring low emissions for indoor air quality.
Most owners report that these mattresses feel soft yet they still provide a solid level of support. They also do not sleep hot which is great because many memory foam mattresses don’t dissipate heat well and cause sweating at night. You can read more in our Zinus Green Tea mattress review.
Dynasty Mattress Cool Breeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress
This mattress has been a best seller on our site for years. The Cool Breeze is manufactured by Dynasty Mattress. These guys make a lot of memory foam mattresses a number of which are very popular on Amazon. Most of their mattresses get very good consumer ratings and at the time of this writing the Cool Breeze 12-inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress has received over 1700 reviews and an average score of 4.4 stars out of 5.
Gel memory foam is memory foam infused with small gel beads. Gel beads increase the airflow in the foam and help the mattress to stay cool. This is important because traditional memory foam has a tendency to sleep hot.
The Cool Breeze mattress has 4 layers of foam: 1 layer of Gel memory foam, 2 layers of Cool airflow foam, 1 layer of High density support foam. Like the Zinus Green Tea mattress all of the foam used in the Cool Breeze is CertiPUR-US certified.
This mattress is considered “medium-firm” and most owners report that it is indeed firm but still comfortable. Like most memory foam mattresses it does initially give off a chemical smell but this generally dissipates in a few days. Also, quite a few people report a reduction in joint pain after using the mattress. You can read more in our Cool Breeze Gel Memory Foam Mattress review.
Ultimate Dreams 13-Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress
This mattress is manufactured by Brooklyn Bedding. One great thing about this company is that their mattresses are manufactured in the USA. Components are also made in the USA. This is not something we see often these days.
The Ultimate Dreams mattress is modeled after the Cloud Luxe Mattress from Tempur-Pedic but is available at a fraction of the price. It is also quite popular with owners and has been getting good ratings for years.
The mattress is available in a number of sizes (twin to California king) but the depth is standard at 13 inches. It is composed of the following layers: 3 inches of 4 lbs gel memory foam, 2 inches of 5 lbs memory foam, 8 inches of premium base foam. These are all CertiPUR-US certified foams.
The Ultimate Dreams mattress does not sleep hot as it utilizes gel infused memory foam. Gel in the foam increases airflow thereby removing extra heat and creating a cooler sleeping mattress. The mattress carries a 20 year warranty. You can read more in our Ultimate Dreams Memory Foam Mattress review.

Serta 12” Gel Foam Mattress
Serta have introduced a new product – gel foam. This material is comprised of tiny gel beads infused into memory foam. The gel beads are reported to provide additional cooling and support especially in areas of higher pressure. This mattress is not as popular as the matresses listed above but ratings are still quite good (about 4 stars out of 5), and the mattress is not too expensive. It should be said however that while most owners feel that the gel foam does its job and the mattress sleeps relatively cool, some folks feel it can still be too hot.
The Serta Gel Foam mattress is available in both 12 inches and 10 inches deep. These are three layer mattresses and there is a layer of base foam, a layer of textured foam and a layer of gel memory foam (on the top). Owners feel the mattress provides a firm sleeping surface.
