Spa Sensations Memory Foam Mattresses

There is little written about this particular company but they sell quite a few mattresses on both Amazon and Walmart.  They also sell through their own website which claims that they have been around for about 10 years and have sold over 1 million mattresses.  They have spring mattresses and memory foam mattresses, as well as memory foam & spring hybrids.  Their mattresses are generally not too expensive and consumer ratings are good.  [REF Spa Sensations Mattress Reviews]

Spa Sensations mattresses that appear on both Amazon and Walmart include the following:

6-inch Memory Foam Mattress
This mattress is not as popular as the 8 and 12 inch models and also gets slightly lower consumer ratings. Ratings are provided in the table below:

Following are the layers of foam in this mattress:

- 1.5 inch layer of 3 lbs/ft3 density memory foam
- 4.5 inch layer of high density polyurethane base foam

The mattress carries a 5-year warranty.  This warranty is a little shorter than some of the other memory foam mattresses we have investigated.

A review of consumer comments provides the following mattress likes and dislikes:

PROS
- Comfortable
- Some folks say it helps with joint pain
- Good for bunkbeds
- Not too expensive

CONS
- A little thin for a mattress
- Give off an odour after unpacking (some owners report that there is almost no odour while others say it can be quite strong and take a while to dissipate).

8-inch Memory Foam Mattress
This is a firm mattress that comes with a terry cloth cover (includes a zipper that allows the cover to be removed and washed).  Ratings are very good as can be seen in the table below:

- 2 inch layer of 3 lbs/ft3 density memory foam
- 2 inch layer of super soft foam
- 4 inch layer of high density polyurethane base foam

Spa Sensations indicates that they use a special memory foam called “biofoam” that includes natural seed oil as well as extracts of green tea and activated carbon for odour control.  The mattress is available in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes.  It also carries a 5-year warranty.

PROS
- Firm yet still comfortable
- Memory foam helps relieve joint pain
- Good value for money

CONS
- Has a chemical smell when first unpacked
- Some folks feel it may be too firm (but most find it comfortable)

12-inch Memory Foam Mattress
This is a firm mattress that comes with a terry cloth cover (includes a zipper that allows the cover to be removed and washed).  Ratings are very good and are about the same as for the 8-inch mattress.

Spa Sensations indicates that they use a special memory foam called “biofoam” that includes natural seed oil as well as extracts of green tea and activated carbon for odour control.  The mattress is available in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes. 

It should be noted that these mattresses are not lightweight.  The queen size 12-inch weighs in at 115 lbs.  The mattress carries a 5-year warranty.

CONS
- Some folks find the odour after unpacking problematic
- A few owners feel it sleeps hot

13-inch Memory Foam Mattress
This is Spa Sensation’s top of the line memory foam mattress and reviews are good.  It is available at both Amazon and Walmart.

This mattress is considered firm and it is also quite thick with the following layers:

- 2 inch layer of memory foam and quilted fiber padding.  This layer also breathes and helps reduce heat.
- 2 inch layer of memory foam (biofoam)
- 3 inch layer of pressure relief foam
- 6 inch layer of high density polyurethane base foam

The biofoam incorporates natural seed oil as well as extracts of green tea and activated carbon for odour control.  The mattress also includes a poly jacquard and bamboo rayon cover.

A review of consumer comments provides the following mattress likes and dislikes:

PROS
- Well priced
- Consumers speak of it helping to relieve back and joint pain
- Inflates quickly after unpacking (8 to 24 hours or so)

CONS
- Some owners feel it is a little soft
- Gives off a chemical smell when unpacked and it can take a while to dissipate
- Heavy mattress with no handles

10-inch Memory Foam & Spring Hybrid Mattress
With an average score of 4.5 stars out of 5 the 10-inch memory foam and spring hybrid mattress is clearly well-liked by owners.  It too can be found on both Amazon and Walmart. 

This is a firm mattress with the following layers:
- 0.5 inches of quilting
- 1 inch layer of memory foam
- 1 inch of high density foam
- 7.5 inch base made of heavy-gauge metal springs

The memory foam used in the mattress is also biofoam (it includes natural seed oil as well as extracts of green tea and activated carbon for odour control).  Spa Sensations report that the combination of memory foam and individual springs virtually eliminates motion transfer.

A review of consumer comments provides the following mattress likes and dislikes:

PROS
- Very inexpensive
- Comfortable
- Quite a few comments indicating the mattress helps with back problems
- A little soft for some owners

CONS
- A little firm for some owners

Memory foam mattresses seem to run the gamut with respect to owner comments on comfort/support.  Owner comments for a single memory foam mattress often range from too soft, to very comfortable, to too firm.  This is likely, in part, due to an individual’s preferences and also possibly an individual’s weight.
