The original Simmons Beautyrest Mattress was launched in 1925. Today they have a high-end luxury line of Beautyrest mattresses know as the Simmons Beautyrest Black Mattress collection. There are four different models in the collection: Olivia Plush, Perla Pillow Top, Alyssa Firm, and the Alisanne Plush Pillow Top. [REF Simmons Mattress Reviews 2010]
These four models share a number of features: true foam encasement, memory foam, yarn blended with Cashmere, and a few specialized Simmons technologies such as the Transflexion Comfort Technology and the Variform Advanced Pocketed Coil spring system. Transflexion Comfort Technology is described by Simmons as a technology “that releases any false firmness or loft in the Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress” (Simmons do not describe this patent pending technology in any detail). The Variform Advanced Pocketed Coil spring system is said to increase mattress strength and comformability via a system of pocketed springs interspersed with rows of both firmer or softer pocketed coil springs.
The four different models are similar in many ways. They all use the Variform advanced pocketed coil springs to provide support and have high density foam along the edges for additional support and durability. They also all have metal corner guards, no-flip design and a 10 year (non-prorated) warranty. Additionally they all use Modal yarn blended, breathable Cashmere.
There are differences in the models however and they tend to be related to a category referred to as “Comfort” by Simmons. The differences are as follows:
Before I started using this mattress I was sleeping on a harder bed and became accustomed to it. Since I've been sleeping on this Alisanne, my sleep is undisturbed but back pain has started. Its been a few months now and I can't shake it. I wouldn't recommend this bed for someone who needs a firmer mattress.
thanks for your report on the Alisanne. I just bought an Olivia Plush last week. I generally need a firm mattress due to low back pain. Tried the tempurpedic Allura for 3 weeks...first 2 weeks were great then my side started to dip at my hip level and I had the hip/back pain so returned it. Our 15 y/o beautyrest plush is my back up in the guest room and I sleep the best ever on it, so decided to upgrade to king and get top of the line Beautyrest (black). did not really want pillowtop b/c of being too soft, however the olivia plush is a bit too hard. We just added a memory foam 3" topper and now it sleeps great! I had considered returning since I get a one-time exchange for the Alissane, so thanks for your review. I think I'll keep the Olivia plush with our added topper. For people with herniated back discs, mattresses will drive you insane! (and empty your wallet fast!)
Lisa- now that you've been on it a while, any further thoughts on the Olivia Plush? I just tried it in a store and love it, thought it might be great, but I have spine issues (T11-12, L5-S1) so if you have any further feedback on this mattress for bad backs, I'd really love to hear it. Lisa..I appreciate your comments on the Olivia. I have a herniated disc and yes..mattress shopping is driving me insane. Since you've had the mattress for a while now, have you found that after using the topper on the Olivia that you have a good comfortable sleeping surface? So hard to tell when trying the mattresses out at store for 5 minutes.
sleeps great with the memory foam topper we bought. We have had this mattress almost a year now, come July. Sometimes I regret not getting the ultra plush one, but you just never know if they're going to sink after a while. At least with the toppers you can replace them. This topper we got at Walmart, called Canopy is awesome, it's memory foam on one side and latex on the other so you can switch around. We tried 3 different toppers and this one was the most comfortable. Hope this helps!
I sell mattresses for a living, and the amount of tech thats goes into these mattresses is outstanding... I would never spend money any other brand. For the year 2011 the new black line is out, and it is the only innerspring mattress to carry a 20 year warrenty!!!
We have had the Alyssa firm for a week now and it still has an awful odor - reminds me of rotten hay. Despite stripping mattress cover, sheets and covers twice and 'airing out' the mattress by opening the windows (and washing bedcovers) it still stinks. Our whole bedroom smells. Disgusting!
I hate it, this mattress is not for people who have back problems, i wake up with my hip sore and part of my leg and it takes me most of the morning to walk the soreness out. Don't buy it
After one year usage I would love to be able to dump it. We both have now back pain, the mattress has an indent were we sleep (we way 140 & 195lbs respectively). I can not recommend this mattress at all.
after one & half yrs. it has body indents (my wife is only 100 lb & me at 200 lb) her side of the bed is worse indented than mine. They do not stand behind their product. I cannot recommend this mattress at all.
Mattress has never felt like the one we tried at the store. Been back and tried the store model again - might as well have been a completely different mattress. The store told us to give it time and that the foam needed to have time to fluff up - but it still feels the same. Having back issues after 40 days on the mattress - going to return it.
I don't sell mattresses or work in the bedding industry -I'm in technology, and I've had a bad back for years (deteriorating L2-4 disks).
I had been on a King Koil Chiropractic mattress for about 8 years and had constant back pain when sleeping (it was too firm). I spent hours trying to choose a new bed and wound up buying the Olivia Plush and put on top of the King Koil box spring (something that the store tried hard to get me not to do, ostensibly for warranty reasons). It's really expensive relative to other choices, but it all comes down to what feels the best for me. Nearly 2 years later and I still love this bed.
I think ultimately any bed choice comes down to what works for an individual and if you buy a bed from a reputable dealer, they should stand behind it and make sure that you get what works for you. I bought from Jordan's in Boston, and they've been great, but there have to be good bed stores in most larger cities.
It's a bummer to read that Simmons might not be honoring warranty issues:-(
Naomi.. i am a 'back' person.. meaning i have disc issues.. i have had this bed.. i guess for 3 yrs now.. and still LOVE it.. mind you i started with a Tempurpedic.. returned it as it gave me shoulder problems among other things.. then went to another Celebrety endorsed mattress that was waaay to soft w/ a pilllow top too.. (What was i thinking?.. it felt good in the store) 3 times a charm.. the Olivia plush firm is firm.. but has a nice plush top.. NOT pillow top that gets indentation.. I also put a lambswool matress pad on it and it is Fabulous... I cannot say enough good things about this bed.. and i am PICKY on matresses.. I need firm.. but i dont want it to feel hard.. and i also dont want to sink into it.
I purchased a top of the line plush Beautyrest Exceptional 8 yrs ago and we love the mattress however it did develop depressions where we sleep. I spent a couple hours filling out claim form with requested pictures and less than 24 hours later had a full refund of purchace price. Now I am looking at the Beautyrest Black. Thanks to you Simmons for standing by your product!
Had the 2011 Natalia Plush with Pillowtop...was ok but indenting so had it exchanged for a new 2012 model "The Kameron" Beautyrest Firm..."The Kameron"
supposedly FIRM...have it two weeks and my back (I'm petite) goes way "in" ...in pain...and can and will return it BUT what do I get?? Natalia is now discontinues and ALL the new Simmons, according to salesperson at major store, came in soft!! Really going mad.
I'm looking at the Macy's Simmons Beautyrest Black called the Lacey Plush or the Margaret Firm PT. Does anyone know what other names these mattress have?
